30 Days of Creativity: Day 27- A Hat for a Royal Wedding

I've had a little obsession since watching the highlights of the wedding of Will and Kate.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 26- Memorial for an Old Friend

While I was at my parents' house, I asked if there were any boxes or bins of my stuff I could sort through in hopes of getting rid of some clutter.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 25- The Fastest Birthday Cake in the West

I should probably be ashamed of myself for not trying a little harder when it comes to the kids' birthday cakes.  I took some cake decorating classes a few years ago, and even invested in a bunch of the tools.  I have everything I need to make some fabulous birthday cakes when the time comes, but I just don't have the energy to put into a project of that magnitude.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 24- Framed Vintage Book

It's another quickie project, yet something I've been wanting to get done for awhile.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 23- Fancy Falafel

Even as a vegetarian, I don't make falafel very often.  It's messy, and after I cook it, the garlic smell lingers in the house for hours.

30 Days of Creativity: Days 21 and 22- Patchwork Rug and Another Animation

For Day 21, I made use of the pile of FLOR modular carpet tiles that have accumulated in our basement.  I love, love, love FLOR.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 20: Illustrated Grocery List

I will apparently do whatever it takes to get the kids to the grocery store with me.  I could go shopping in the evening after they are in bed, but I really want that time to be "me time."  The best way to organize my time is to take the kids along on all the mundane errands during the day.  Unfortunately, there are days when the kids don't want to cooperate, and that's when the crayons come out.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 19: Little Herb Garden

I worry about the dumbest things.  I've been growing different potted plants on our back patio for years, where no one can see them, but I never put anything out in front of the house.  The reason is that many of our neighbors are dedicated gardeners and really know what they are doing.  I usually kill plants after a few weeks, and I like to keep that private to save myself the embarrassment.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 18- Chicago Highlights

I didn't have time to do much for Day 18, but I did spend time organizing my pictures from our family trip to Chicago.  We went to Chicago during Memorial Day Weekend because The Mister had some business to do at the Building Department.  We had talked about going this summer anyway, so when the opportunity came up we decided, two days in advance, this was the right time to go.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 17- Homemade Cards

Father's Day and my mother-in-law's birthday fell on the same weekend this year, meaning I needed to pull together four cards.  Spending something like $12 for Hallmark greetings, seems like a waste of money when I have two perfectly good crayon and marker artists-in-residence.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 16- Kaleidoscopic Living Room

I had a lot of trouble getting anything done for Day 16.  The Mister had to fly to Chicago for the morning and was supposed to be getting on a 2:00 flight back home.  One problem after another had him switching planes, trying to get other flights on standby, waiting on planes that ended up needing repairs.  He finally found out around midnight that his last chance for a flight home wasn't going to happen.  He was sent to a hotel, where he napped for a couple hours before going back to the airport to get on the first flight out in the morning.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 15- Strange Butterfly

Okay, this technically wasn't my idea.  I have an extremely imaginative boy.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 14- Fun with Candy Laces

When I go to Ikea, I sometimes stop by the little food market area on my way out.  They sell some great frozen desserts, cheap pizza slices, and sparkling apple juice that surprisingly doesn't contain high-fructose corn syrup.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 13- Colonel Mustard. In The Lounge. With the Candlestick.

Here's another reason I love cheap little frames from Ikea.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 12- Postcard Frames, Two Ways

This is another thing that I've been meaning to do for a long time.  Again, things I brought back from the 2007 trip to Europe, are haunting me, begging me to take them out of my storage bins and display them.  I'm actually really good about not buying a lot of souvenirs while on vacation.  I feel like photos and journals are the best ways to remember a great trip.  If I buy anything, it's rarely a tchotchke that will sit and gather dust.  I like museum prints that I can hang on the wall, or an accessory I can wear, or good chocolate that I can share with people when I get back. However, I somehow end up coming home with a stack of postcards.  They don't take up a lot of space, and they are inexpensive, but I have almost never found a use for them.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 11- Skirt from Old Jeans

Of all my creations so far this month, this one makes me most proud.  I consider myself to be at a beginners level of sewing.  It still mystifies me that people can make their own clothing, and other than some little baby pants and bibs, I haven't attempted anything that someone could actually wear.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 10- Friendship Bracelet

It's hard to find time to be creative some days.  So I decide to work on something that I think should be quick and easy.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 9- Beginning Animation

If I could come up with anything else, I would not be posting this.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 8- Another iPad Tracing

I've been crazy busy and only had time to do a few things on my iPad right before bed.  So here's another tracing that I wish I could say I actually sketched.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 7- Sneaky Stain Cover-Up

I save some pretty random things, thinking I'll find a use for them.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 6- Felt Ravioli

This is one of the projects that I've been meaning to do for a long time.  I bought the felt for it over a year ago, and it's been sitting around in a bin in the basement ever since.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 5- Pedicure Quick-Fix

I've been digging the color yellow lately.  It's so cheery, like sunshine and daffodils and...

30 Days of Creativity: Day 4- A Leafy Sandwich for a Little Boy

Maybe it's because he watches too much "Go, Diego, Go!" but Boo is obsessed with what different animals like to eat.  I keep bags of organic mixed greens in the fridge, with the intention of The Mister and me eating more veggies.  Never in my wildest imagination did I think Boo would make the connection that we eat leaves "just like a giraffe does."  He will eat them plain, in his hands, after digging them out of the bag.  But I've introduced to him the idea that they are also good on a sandwich.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 3- Lamp Revamp

This time, I choose a project that has been begging to be done for several months.  As we put the finishing touches on our master bedroom, I'm finding that I gravitate toward light wood, white and yellow accessories, and glossy finishes.  Our old dark brown lamps just didn't fit anymore.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 2- Activity Calendar

This isn't creative in the artistic sense, but I did create it and I think it's pretty useful.

30 Days of Creativity: Day 1- iPad sketch

I've decided to take the 30 Days of Creativity challenge.

The nice thing about this challenge is that there are no rules.  The creating can be as complex or as lazy/last-minute as I want it to be.  So here's my completed project for Day 1.
