Monday Morning Roundup 11.26.12

Happy Monday, all.

Look what's back at Trader Joe's.  Hey, if I didn't buy three, some other hoarder would come along and wipe them all out.

For the first time, I didn't go out shopping on Black Friday.  Not that I didn't want to, but we had some unexpected bills earlier in the month, and most of our Christmas shopping is done already.  When I finally got sick of being in the house with the family, I took myself out for a cup of hot chocolate and drove around listening to Arcade Fire until I ended up at the local library.  No crowds, no parking lots, no credit cards (although, the library put a hold on my account until I came up with $5 to pay down my fines).

For once, I'm a little bit glad my Black Friday didn't resemble any of these.

Our house is pretty modern, and I try to keep to a theme when decorating for Christmas, even though the kids have been crafting and coloring some bizarre "ornaments" and hanging them on the tree.  I think I'll steer them toward these 15 DIY Modern Holiday Decorations.

Check out this Ice Cubes Recipe and then read the comments.

Yesterday I went to the Cindy Sherman exhibit at the Walker.  If you go, find out a little bit about her beforehand.  And know that there is an entire gallery of clown portraits.  Big ones.

I've saved the best for last.  Did you ever see Adele Enerson's baby dream photos of her daughter Mila?  Well, Mila has a new brother, Vincent, and he's having some pretty awesome baby dreams, too.

That's it.  Have a nice week!

Monday Morning Roundup 11.19.12

Happy Monday, friends.  Monday morning caught me by surprise this week, so I have no picture for this post.  Oh well.  Here are the links I want to share:

I found some cool free stuff, including an entire iTunes playlist!  Free downloads from Crate and Barrel.

This made me laugh.  A lot.  The Hater's Guide To The Williams Sonoma Catalog.  *afterthought:  I should warn people that there are some swear words.  Although, $72 biscuits are so much more offensive to me.  :)

You still have time to make one of these Ten DIY Advent Calendars

Looking for something to do over the long weekend?  From Parent Hacks (a great site that is worth a look): the Wheel of What.  I love that there's an app for this, although I think you could re-purpose a game spinner and make one yourself.

Finally, there are a lot of great sitcom Thanksgiving episodes, but the funniest ever has to be the Cheers "Thanksgiving Orphans" episode.  By the way, if you have Netflix streaming, you can watch the entire show: Season 5, Episode 9.

That's all I've got today.  Have a great week.  Gobble, gobble!

Monday Morning Roundup 11.12.12

Happy Monday, Friends, and welcome to the first snowfall (for those of us in Minnesota, anyway).

Not even December and I just want to hibernate with a pile of fabric and my sewing machine.  It's time to start working on some of the projects I've been seeing on Pinterest.  I was at the library the other day and wiped out their selection of modern sewing books.  Many of them I've checked out before, and there are so many more good ones to choose from.

I don't know if this says something about the honesty of Hennepin County Library patrons or maybe just the sewers and crafters among us, but every single time I check out books with patterns, the patterns are still there! Neatly folded and stored in their pockets!  It's stuff like this that makes me value our public library.  I feel so blessed to have it as a resource.

Now for some links:

If I were to think of a name for this cute DIY project, I think it would be Binders Full of Awesome.  Take a look.

Since I got my current laptop about a year ago, I've been missing a lot of the software I had on my old computer.  I'm definitely going to be checking out these free alternatives to best-selling software.

I'm always on the hunt for good-quality, cute clothes for the kids so I can't believe I only now found out about The Diminutive Review, a blog that compiles sales and coupon codes for all the good stores.  Yay!

If you are friends with me on Facebook, you know The Mister and I just watched the entire series of Lost on Netflix.  I was so disappointed with the end, and the fact that we had wasted so much time on the show.  I think it's time to read some books.  Here's one good, kind of random, list to get me started.

And finally, Supermom.  Right here.

Thanks for reading, and have a nice week!
